More Info

For 7th- to 12th-grade girls (and graduating seniors), Merestead offers instructional programs in hockey and lacrosse with a special program for goalies.

Whatever your level as a player, you can learn, refresh, and advance your skills. A typical day includes a morning and afternoon instructional session with other players of similar experience. (In our combination sessions in hockey and lacrosse, you'll spend half your time with each sport.) With the help of world-class coaches, you can hone your skills, develop your understanding of how and when to apply techniques, and improve your overall game play. Individual instruction allows you to concentrate on specific problems, using 3v1, 2v1, 3v2 set-ups and small games (e.g., 5v5 and 7v7). At all times, we emphasize and help you develop the decision-making process you'll need to excel. Each day, we leave time for optional pick-up games with players and staff.

We describe our program as TOTAL soccer. The program is a combined concept of International Play and the Givargis Method. The corner stone of the Givargis Method is Jim Givargis. He is present and actively involved in all training sessions. When you attend the Givargis Soccer School, you get Jim Givargis' full time attention. The Givargis Method is based on the belief that in order for an athlete to become a complete player they must be 100% confident with their ability to control the ball with all parts of their body. Once the ball control foundation is established, the skills of shooting, passing and dribbling are introduced and refined. The Givargis Method is not magic. It requires dedication and hard work! We guarantee that during a one week boarding session, each student will have had over 15,000 individual ball touches. To ensure that each student reaches their maximum potential, our student - teacher ratio is never greater than 7 to 1.

In addition to field players, Jim Givargis and his staff are experts in teaching GOALKEEPING using the Dutch Method. We encourage coaches and teams to attend. When coaches and their teams go through the program together, the results can be dramatic.
